Rear wheel options (CB750 SOHC)
« on: May 27, 2005, 06:25:57 AM »
Starting to gather parts for a CB750 SOHC café racer project.  I’ve seen some people that re-lace Harley wheels to the rear hub.   What does this do for wheel options?  Lower profiles?  Wider wheels?  What’s possible, and some good sources for rims would be great too!!!

Thanks!!

Duster,

What's a good size to use for a mix of looks and performance...

Hell, stock sizes dont look bad.. and your not gonna get a 300 to fit er.. I would go with something that has an updated tread design that looks more like a crotch-rocket style tire rather than a narrow car tire (too squared)

OK guys, so what's the widest wheel you would lace up to a stock rear hub using the stock rear mudgaurd but no near fender.

thanks!

Depends on the year. I hear that in a 77-78 supersport, because of the wider speocket spacing, you can get up to a 180 tire in there (don't know if it will clear the stock frame or swingarm but at least the chain line can accomidate it) I think on most k bikes (69-76) 140 is the max and even then you will probably have to go to a wider rim laced to your stock hub. I personally have found an 18" tall rim to be a pretty good handler on other bikes (kawasaki triples). I think stock is either 19" or 18 on a cb750. Personally my stock 75 cb750 handles great on stock rims and a 130 rear tire, it all depends on how confident you are on the bike. Thinner tires tend to handle better than wider tires because your turn in is quicker, but most modern sportbikes have 180 + sized tires because anything less they would simply overpower in a turn.

on my k1,i had to trim the inside of the chain guard the width of the tire, because it rubbed a bit,now ill say i had to do that because for some damn reason my tire is a bit offset to the left on that bike.
