Pressurized Tank
« on: July 05, 2015, 07:22:11 PM »
  Hi All,

I recently had a rather strange thing happen, but first the back story.

I just fixed two issues on my 78 550, one was badly rusted tank (used Caswells), second was managed to diagnose and fix intermittent/no spark on #2/4.

On start up and first few km, it ran like a champ, obviously after fixing both issues you would expect a major performance change.  Within five minutes, it started to surge, burble and fart.
At one point it was barely making it down the road and it was leaking out the overflow.  Once I made it home, I was poking around and went to look into the tank and when I opened it, a big whoosh of air came out.

Does anyone think that with enough pressure in the tank, it could "pressurize' my carbs and make it spit gas out both the overflow, and into the cylinders?
I used vinegar to clean the rust out of the tank, could I have managed to bung up the vent in the cap?  I tried blowing through it and got nothing.  I tried sucking air back out and got a bit of flow.

Any thoughts?
Could this cause it to suddenly start acting VERY rich and foul my plugs to a sooty black?

Leave the fuel cap loose and see how it runs.
