My project cb550 came with a non-factory 4/2 system. The mufflers are welded to the pipes sloppily, and tho they work fine, the mufflers are rusting and cosmetically rough.

I would like to chop the pipes ahead of the weld site and fix something else on behind- I'm just not sure how to do it. Is there a collector/link pipe available somewhere that can consolidate the two pipes on each side into one? Or should I try and find baffles to fit the straight pipes themselves?

Thoughts?
Thanks

Dont chop them right at the weld site, start cutting a few inches into the muffler and grind the rest of the muffler away.  There will be some extra head pipe making its way into the muffler, and  those few inched can make the difference in where, how, and what you can put on there.

I have a Yoshimura replica 4-1 brand I'd consider selling off.

A little off topic, just putting it out there.

Perfect. Thank you for the quick advice.
I hadn't considered there might be more head pipe inside the exhaust, that is very helpful.
