Deer season
« on: June 28, 2015, 07:50:14 PM »
I don't hunt, but based on the sheer number of deer I see crossing the roads it's clearly the season.

This weekend alone I counted at least 5 crossing well traveled roads during daylight hours.  In fact I nearly bagged me a decent buck and doe on the way back from the BMW dealership this Saturday.

Looked up, noticed something odd, looked again and had to drop anchor hard to avoid broadsiding a big buck showing 3 point antlers with fuzz on them.  His mate/sister/mother/significant other ;D was behind him in the oncoming lane.  They just stared at me like it was perfectly normal to hang out in the middle of the road, then trotted into some guy's bushes - heading for the stream down the road a bit no doubt.

Fireworks notwithstanding, it's dangerous out there.

I know of motorcycle cop who died after hitting deer by the Manassas Battlefield state park.

Myself I killed a buck with my Honda during October rut and brushed touched a doe this spring.

In my experience, on the sound of motorcycle, deer will try to get back to safety - i.e. head for the woods if in the open.

One of my buddie's most recent encounter with a deer involved him completely stopping in the middle of the road and the deer slamming straight into his driver's door disorienting the thing, then the deer proceeded to slam into his door twice more (all while he was stopped in the road) before running off. Them things turn plumb crazy during the rut.

I had a doe come within 6' of me, on the shoulder keeping pace with me on my 350F for about 4 strides, before it jumped back into the brush.  We scared the isht out of eachother  ;D

Due to a lack of hunting, the Deer are like squirrels around here. They got so comfortable in my yard they give me attitude so I got a slingshot and marbles and shoot them in the ass.

I can't ride at Dusk anymore since they pop out of everywhere. I ride down the roads beeping my horn sometimes.

I can't remember the last time I saw one outside during the day - but this year, all over the place.

I'm getting danged paranoid about it.  Thirsty or not, I don't need any more close encounters with them - and quit eating my roses!

Ha!  I do that with geese when they try to nest at our pond.

But somewhere I remember reading, there is more whitetail deer in America now, than  before Columbus, reason being timberwolf no longer around to keep the population down and the excellent deer habitat we create  - aka city suburbs.
