That may very well end up being the result, but first Rafi has to accept the nomination and we should recognize others for their builds.  It's not like you get lottery money for winning BOTM.  The recognition from your peers is the best part.  Winning it doesn't suck either!  ;)

All that said, I think that if Rafi accepts, his K2 will be tough to beat for this month and very likely for the year.  He's got the NOS receipts and 51 pages (and counting) to back it up.  ;D

Okay, I know the competition is daunting, but surely we have (or will have by the 15th) some worthy bikes to recognize this month.

This bike could have had BLACK RIMS and would still get my vote. The minute detail of each step in the build thread sure takes some beating. Good luck young Rafi but I doubt you will need it.

I feel bad for whoever has to go up against Rafi's bike.

PLEASE don't say that!

BOTM, like Don said earlier, is about recognizing builds more than winning anything. The heartwarming reception my bike has had from the moment I called it done is so overwhelming, I'm having difficulty expressing it. And it is wayyyyy more than I could have ever wanted in terms of my work paying off. The true reward for me here is that

One more of these beauties will be on the road for a loooooooooooooooong time.
I have learned so much in a field I really had 0 experience and very limited knowledge two years ago.
I have made friends with a bunch of exceptional people who are willing to help me out without ever having seen or met me.

I could go on, but I'll spare you all the boredom ;)

I love that blue as well! A while back I had a poll going to decide what color to restore my K2. Since I wanted it restored correctly, blue wasn't a choice for the US 750 K2s. In the poll, gold won by a good margin, whereas  the planet blue metallic won by "popular" vote??? I almost wen't with the blue, ALMOST ;D

Although I never intended this bike to be a stock restoration I wanted to keep it fairly close with just a few tweaks. When choosing a paint color I did look at at the original colors the '72 500 was offered in and Candy Gold was the front runner of those. But, I've always loved the Planet Blue Metallic and wanted to get something close to that. After looking at a lot of different blue paints I ended up going with a GM color, "Medium Quasar Blue Metallic" and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

It's an honor to be nominated and recognized for all the hard work I've put into this bike over the last 14 months and to have it put up beside a bike as beautiful and well built as yours. Best of luck to you and anyone else who gets nominated for August BOTM.
