Hello, new owner of a 74 cb550
« on: July 07, 2015, 12:53:41 PM »
Hi everyone.  Just picked up this bike last week.  Getting my permit this week and my riding class is in two weeks.  Till then, she'll be sitting in the garage.  Just ordered a new stock seat too.  Original owner has pods on the bike.  The pods on the far right and far left stick out, guess the guy bought the wrong pods and compensated by using longer curved hoses.  I'm debating on changing the pods out for velocity stacks.  Might even take it back to stock if I can find a good deal on the stock airbox.  Cheers!

Welcome from Texas.   Looks like a nice bike, will look so much better with the stock seat.
Highly recommend the stock air box too.  Hows she run now?
What color is the tank, hard to tell for the garage pic.

Stev-o she runs pretty good.  Previous owner had his local shop go over the bike.  They previous owner delivered it to my place and he lives about 20 miles away.  The tank is Chrome.

I was told the bike shop set the bike to run rich so the owner wouldnt need to use the choke to start the bike.  Im gonna grab the service records to see what was done exactly to the bike.  Bike also apparently vibrates if you take it above 65mph.  Ok for now since I dont plan to take her on the hwy for now.  Eventually ill refurbish the front forks, balance the wheels, and make sure the wheels are aligned.

Jet so choke not needed? That's just dumb.  Choke is only used for 5 min when cold.  I would not want my bike running rich all of the time.
The front vibration could be the tire. How old is it?  (Date code is on sidewall).  If over 6 years, replace it.

And BTW, never believe what the PO says.

Yeah, Im gonna call the shop and get the service record for the bike.  Im wondering if they added bigger jets and just said screw it when the bike ran rich.   Thanks, ill check the tires.
