some nice new goodies in the there. will be interesting to see if you feel a difference before/aft. in terms of crank weight. how many has been taken off?
carillo rods are good for piece of mind, even if the 500/550 doesnt seem to suffer in that area as the 750. hope the sump mods solve your oil issues.

With the Carrillo rods I should see a little less stretch and can tighten up the squish from .040 to .035.  The stock crank weighed 19.5 lbs. on my bathroom scale and 16.5 after lightening.  Not super accurate, but a 3 lbs. difference.

Worked on installing the Cycle X straight intake manifolds today and re-racking the carburetors.

Here are the new manifolds with two rubbers boots installed.  Forty millimeter Honda clamps are just right.  95018-40250  This part number works for multiple carb clamps, just change to 40 to the size desired.

Re-racked carbs mounted.

You need to purchase the bracket on the side of carb #2 that holds the fuel "T" in place.  Without it the fuel "T" can slip out and allow fuel to spill.  Sudco carries them.

Looking down the carb mouth you can just see the valve guide at the back!  A nice straight shot for the air/fuel mixture.

Tightening the squish will make a really nice difference....that's where the power is.

now that i see the manifolds installed, got to tell you that i am not excited about the way they block out the exit of hot air at the back of the head,

all that effort with exotic coatings to reduce thermal load and then this? :)

would cut off the plate around the inlet bore and two screws and leave each manifold alone.

thats the way i built mine, never had a problem with rigidity or sealing, weights a ton less and keeps air passage free

will post a pic later, not at home now

yes i must agree with tg , you have created an air dam . by the end of the back straight that head will be very very hot .

Relieve the back side, trim all you can off it and drill a bunch of big holes.

I had not considered the effect on air flowing through the head!  Will need to take a good look and determine the best way to open it up.  Good call TG!  Thanks.

Sure is a good point....wish i had thought of that while I modifying them. TG.....I noticed the length of your manifold/insulators set up. Have you tried shortening them?

that pic is from the first build with the VM26s 12 yrs ago... in the later iteration with CR29 they sit closer to the head.

I understand. Brent's engine has benefitted from shortened manifolds.

It's a bit tough to understand. From my 1973 school notes and formulas my intakes should have been really long. It always seemed the British race bikes used longer intakes.

I'm not sure what i would have done if left to my own devices, but this guy I know, Mike Rieck, convinced me to make them short for improved signal. So the cable stays touch the valve cover, about as short as they can be.

I think he was right!  ::)  ;D

Yes...I have also seen long intake tracts for old British (Truimphs in particular) bikes. Different animals with large valves, longer duration working at much lower RPM's

The new and improved intake manifolds!

Before & after.

Now that's what I'm talking about.  Lots of airflow now!

It is good to have friends with machine tools.

Big thanks to TG for spotting the issue.

Wow!  Amazing how much area was uncovered.  Have you also port matched them to the carbs & head?

They have been port matched.  Some of Mike Rieck's handiwork while he was refurbishing the head.

You are on the right track if you have an invoice.  The next step is to send a payment by PayPal.  My invoice was in Euros, so be sure you are paying in the correct currency.  The last one I purchased was in 2017 and was 73.39 Euros.  As I recall the payment goes to their email address.  Here is the info from my payment:
