1976 CB550 Top End Rebuild
« on: July 04, 2015, 06:25:51 PM »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have installed the correct gaskets (including the O-rings and rings around the bottom of the cylinders).  I put the head on and slipped it over the pistons.  I used a rubber mallet to lightly tap the head down and it still won't seat 100% flush to the bottom.  Does this mean I have something incorrect, or should the head and installed nuts and washers drive the cylinder down the rest of the way.

Basically, does it need to sit flush with the tap of a mallet or with all the new gaskets will it not seat 100%?  I'm showing about 1/32" of inch gap as of right now.  It's small, but I can see light to the other side after tapping it down.

The rubber rings that went on the bottom of each cylinder sleeve did not want to stay put in the groove all the way?  I got them in there as best as possible and figured the pressure of the cylinder itself along with the head install would probably take care of it.

Now I'm starting to second guess myself.

Thanks,
J
