New rider from illinois
« on: July 08, 2015, 06:04:39 PM »
Hello everyone, my name is Daniel and I just bought my first motorcycle. The bike is a 1975 cb550 (k, I guess?) that I recently purchased from a friend who respectfully denied the need for an old bike and the "special" maintenence that goes along with it. I am a sheet metal worker by trade, employed by a large mechanical contractor in the peoria area. Hobbies include just about anything with a motor, but specifically old things with motors including primarily antique tractors and neglected chainsaws. I'll appologize to anyone who is a purist, as I know they exist within this forum. I am far from that. My bike has a sort of "I really don't care" vibe going on, and I intend on running with it. Thanks for having me!

Welcome!  Looks like someone had some fun with the bike prior to you picking it up.  Glad you saved it from getting set to the side by your friend!

I work in a fab shop in East Peoria, and live the next town over.  Small world!

Well hey, that's pretty cool. Maybe you'll see the old girl riding around one of these days. Pekin is where I'm at right now.

Cool!  I'm in Morton.  Mines going back together...again...hopefully riding this weekend if the rain holds off.

Fresh top end gaskets (base up) CB650 cam, KW valvesprings, Viton stem seals, and now I'm wrapping up a custom wiring harness.  A few other odds and ends went on while I had it under the knife.

Yeah that factory harness is something else isn't it? Maybe when you get it done we could meet up and go for a rip.
