Caught Me By Surprise
« on: October 24, 2006, 04:36:54 AM »

Cool Idea 8)!!  I just got up and was taken by surprise by this one. This forum ought to develop pretty quickly too!! Thanks!! When I've fully awakened, maybe I can add to what ever's already been posted here. Can't think too clearly right now.

                                                            Later on, Bill ;)

What stuff don't make no sense?

We are working on a 'what is this forum all about post'.  I jumped the gun a bit and set up this forum before we were done with that.

If we had an infinite number of monkeys sitting in front of an infinite number of computers, not one of them would be posting in this forum.

It doesn't really belong here anyway; if no one minds terribly, I'll delete it in a little bit.

Actually, I was talking about how funny Burmashave's comment was.  The though of an infinite number of monkeys at computers flinging their poo but not reading this post broke me up.  Very funny, I'm going to use that one some time.

Given that this thread is soon headed to the ether, I will happily admit that it wasn't original.  Many, many years ago, David Letterman made this joke during his intro:

Scientists now tell us that if we had an infinite number of monkeys sitting in front of an infinite number of typewriters, the smell would be horrific. ;)

I think that before him, Feynman claimed that probabilistically the infinite monkeys would eventually type War and Peace.  Regardless, I'm sure they wouldn't be reading this.    ;D

Yup, it's all a play on what Fenyman said.

As the caption to the picture of a monkey sitting at a typewriter -- "According to the second Borel-Cantelli lemma, given enough time, a chimpanzee like this one typing at random will almost surely type out a copy of one of Shakespeare's plays."  gotta love Wikipedia and idle time to research this pointless subject.   8)

I have just left your fighting sons in Korea. They have met all tests there, and I can report to you without reservation that they are splendid in every way.

It was my constant effort to preserve them and end this savage conflict honorably and with the least loss of time and a minimum sacrifice of life. Its growing bloodshed has caused me the deepest anguish and anxiety.

Those gallant men will remain often in my thoughts and in my prayers always.

I am closing my 52 years of military service. When I joined the Army, even before the turn of the century, it was the fulfillment of all of my boyish hopes and dreams. The world has turned over many times since I took the oath on the plain at West Point, and the hopes and dreams have long since vanished, but I still remember the refrain of one of the most popular barrack ballads of that day which proclaimed most proudly that "old soldiers never die; they just fade away."

And like the old soldier of that ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.

Good Bye.  [General Douglas MacArthur, 19 April 1951.  It seemed appropriate, but I have a weird sense of apropriateness.]

Well, Nice Going Guys!!  I don't get it, here was a place that TRICKS (that have been learned
from experience) and TIPS (that could help others) could have been placed in a collective manner
and it's fixing to be GONE. This was supposed to be a place where ANY of us could have come
and picked up on some USEFUL info or PROVIDED some and NOW it's basically been blown out of
the water and in RECORD time too!!  THANKS  A LOT!!

DUDE, I think he just meant that he was going to delete this pointless and rambling thread, not the whole section.  I have a feeling that he is probably getting just as big a kick out of this as we are and doesn't want to prematurely end the fun.  He should definitely let us have our fun and see what comes of it.  I have a feeling we are about to write War and Peace.
