Does anybody know the thread size for the petcock to screw to for this bike? I have already ordered 2 petcocks on eBay that claim to fit this make and model, but don't.  The one in the picture is 18mm thread. Mine is much larger in diameter. I can't determine the thread size because not one auto store or hardware store has that large in metric. Both ones I ordered have smaller fuel output holes. Is that an issue for fuel flow?  Let me know if you need more info.

Wait, so you have the tank and are trying to find out essentially what size nut threads on to it? Why can't you measure the diameter of the bung and use a thread pitch gauge to check thread pitch?

I didn't have those tools handy at the time. Conclusion of story: measured, 18mm, petcock ordered and delivered for $15 on ebay

Folks I used a combination of vinegar and rust converter and it worked perfectly.

Not at the same time I might add.

1. Traditional vinegar method.
2. Flush and neutralize
3. I always get flash rust or other small patches so:
4. Add gallon of rust converter.
5. Fill tank with warm water.
6. Leave 24-48hr above 70°C
7. Rinse, flush with diesel, empty, fill with gas.

Diluting the rust converter slows the process but it doesn’t stop it, as long as you keep it warm. And slowing the process down with a weaker solution seems to clear the rust without taking too much good metal with it. I know it’s not supposed to do that, but it has with other projects in my experience.

Now, having evaluated the interior of the tank with a flexible camera, my tank is 100% rust free. No more fuel starvation on reserve, no blowing iron oxide dust into the cylinders.

What size is the nut on the OE tap. If an 18mm won't fit the next size up is normally 22mm, which is a Harley size BTW.

I am confused, in the first post you say 18mm did not fit and later you say you ordered an 18mm that did fit HUH?
