Pitting in master cylinder.
« on: July 06, 2015, 10:59:14 PM »
I picked up this master cylinder for cheap knowing it was used and had been sitting, so I knew the risks.  The parts that are intact cleaned up alright, but now that I can see in there I notice the pitting near the end where the spring rests.  My gut says this will prevent a proper seal, but I figured I'd double check to see if it can be used.

It doesn't look good but Im not sure if the seal cup gets to that spot. Do you have an old plunger you can install and measure how far the travel is then you can see if it would stop before that pitting or not.

I see what you're talking about.  It's concentrated near the spring.   I'll take a look tomorrow and see what I can see in there.  At the very least I can probably get a measurement on how far out that pitting reaches.  Then maybe someone will know if the plunger goes that far.  I just want to be sure since there are replacement MC's for the same price as a rebuild kit.

I have David silvers MC which does not cost much. I added the OEM looking cap too.
