So I just last night brought home a 74 CB750, with 620 original miles on it. It runs and idles well, and had been very well taken care of so I'm pretty excited . I've had a CB500 that I've been working on riding for the last few years that I sold to be able to purchase the 750. My impression while having the 500  was that it was a very similar bike to the 750 but I'm seeing that there are much more differences than I'd thought. That being said I'm familiar the work I need to do to clean my brake caliper, because it's sticking, however I don't know the size of the needed tool to remove the two bolts holding on the caliper. It looks to be a large Alan wrench.
Any help is appreciated.

yes large metric allen wrench will work, i suggest getting a set of allen socket things for working on the bikes.

Great, but does anyone know the specific size needed for this particular job?

Yes, it's 8mm.   You prolly just need to clen the inside of the caliper and install a new seal, pretty basic.

Tip: before you disconnect your brake line, loosen the caliper and pump the piston out.  Much easier this way.

Thanks Stev-o, I wanted to be sure that I had the correct size if I buy a set.
Thanks as well for the tip on popping out the piston!

Happy to help.   That is a sweet looking bike, I think you did real well and would think it is a big improvement over a 500.

Huge improvement. I loved my 500 but I really had no idea of what I was missing.

So clearly I need to purchase new tires since it still has the originals on it. I had someone at a bike shop suggest the Conti Twins . Anyone have recommendations?

ContiTwins are very good, but pricey. I have Bridgestone BT45's on my K4 and like them a lot.  Avon RoadRiders are also very good.

Is that 620 original mileage? Are the tires original to the bike with 620 miles on them. Tread should be more than adequate but they are probably dry out to the max if they are 45 years old.

It's original mileage , and the tires are the original tires. The bolts on the bike still have the factory yellow paint on them and plastic on the back of the mirrors.

You going to actually start racking up miles on this?

Museum bike. I felt bad taking my 76SS from 9K to 12K miles and I'm committed to keeping the sandcast under 10K. Have a blast showing her off!

Excellent bike there. I have Continental tires on all my 750's. I was looking for a vintage tire pattern and this is what the board suggested like 7 years ago. Now Dunlop also makes the vintage Gold Seal tire I hear. Was going to check those out at some point. Have had real good luck with my Conti's.

While I can understand the skepticism about the original mileage on this bike, I can assure that this bike has only 620 miles on it. The question was asked about whether or not I was going to rack up miles on it, and the answer is yes. But that being said, it will not be much, as I rarely ride more than the 6 miles to and from work. But my view on it is that I am sure there are several CB750s sitting in vintage bike museums, or collectors garages that won't uptick another mile. My bike however is going to be enjoyed.
The backstory on this bike is that it was purchased along with another just like for a father and son when new. The son rode his bike over the course of the next 30 years, but the father only put about 400 miles on it before passing. His son kept the bike stored until about 2005 and decided to sell to his brother-in-law. The brother-in-law kept the bike for 10 years and only put about 200 miles on it because he, like many people would choose, didn't want to rack up many miles on this bike. He had a Harley that he regularly rode so he just kept this bike under a motorcycle cover in his garage for the last 10 years, starting it up once or twice to let it run each year but not riding it. After 10 years, this year, he decided to sell because he wasn't riding it and felt like it was a waste to just sit in his garage. So he agreed to let me buy it.
It is not pristine. There are small rust spots on the chrome of the wheels, and there is corrosion on some parts of the engine covers as well as one of the front forks. This is easily taken care of however, and the bike is something that I am going to thoroughly enjoy...by riding it. I doubt i'll put more than 1200 miles /year on it but maybe this bike will spur me to riding more. I can say that after my first ride, it was a major blast compared to the 500 i've been riding for the last few years.
