For what you can source fenders for on Ebay (~$200), a properly plated fender will cost about the same, or just slightly less. The original factory Chrome has always been better than anything these good for nothing businesses will give you today. And if you do pay for that rare bizness owner that will do a quality job, then you will surely pay at least $200.00 for each fender.
Research for yourself and see if I'm right.
Now, there are other parts that is better to have plated than to try to buy new. I went through several pairs of headlight brackets off ebay...all supposedly in "great shape" and ended up having the better of them replated for $50.00 for the pair. This was the case for the tail light bracket, and a few other parts.
