Topic: Who is building a Cafe?

I have a 77 cb750 with a RC preformance  1975f engine. It has a heat treated  4 into 1 kerker exhuast.

My Cafe plans are to make  a cool looking bike, even cooler looking.

1. I had a custom gas tank made, and I bought a fiberglass seat from airtech.

2.CR 29mm Carbs

3.Clip ons and a custom top tripe clamp from MC.

4. Chrome sproket and new gold 530 chain

5. Next thing I need is some nice rear sets.

This winter I'm rebuilding my 78 F with a 836 Big bore kit, head work, while the engine out I'll powder coat the frame, and probably do the same with the comstars.  New shocks and fork springs, steering damper
And I'm definitely going to pick up a oil cooler kit from terry and a fork brace if he has them.

Where is RC performance?  I was checking out cycle xchange for my head work.

not necessarily doing a cafe job,i am going to try to get my bike ready for a little bit of drag racing next year.so we`ll see how that goes.

I'm still messing with my 400.  Nothing high performance here, mostly cosmetics...I'm just happy to have it moving under it's own power again after some tranny problems.  

I did finish one major mod the other day...had to order some seals from David Silver Spares, so I splurged and got NOS shock nuts.  Drives the ladies wild.

RC performance was a company that made speed parts for the SOHC4's back in the 70's. My engine was done and than redone using there parts, lighted crank, alternator, rods, pistons, cams. The engine really had the works done to it. It revs like a modern bike and sounds kinda different as well.

Will also do some cosmetic work when the engine is out (polishing and zinkplating).

Just had the first snowfall last night so I guess the riding season is over
Time to bring out the snowmobile

I think I am building a cafe? so far, extended gastank w/ knee inserts. seat with rear cowl, clip ons, rear sets, kerker 4-1. still to do: make new oil tank, get 17 inch wheel for the front, and some cafe stickers. paint.

Not me, according to some people I build turds. The next 500 will have knee but outs and a recessed O.E. type gas cap. Now just have to figure out how to fit it on a big wheel.

Cool stuff you guys, I am in the middle of a high level ratle can paint job. I purchased Color rite primer, paint and clear coat. I am on my 4th coat of primer. Next is the glosy black stuff. It seems tto be much better paint than I have ever used, but it is also a bit more expensive.

Running aluminum DID rims
'98 Katana master cylinder with braided stainless line plumbed direct to caliper
KZ 900 tailight on self made light/plate bracket
Seat pod off of ebay

 I STILL need to get my seat covered     I did fab up a pad out of some foam and leather(not pictured)....just to keep everybody from asking where my seat was. Now all I hear is.......Not much padding there 

Will probally do a repaint on it over the winter. I thought I wanted the green but it has lost its appeal.
Wanting to get a chrome Kerker 4-1
Rear sets
New shocks for the back
Polish the front fork lowers
Rebuild front caliper and powder coat
etc,etc.......

My list of projects for my scoot are :
1. Clean/smooth top triple-tree
2. Move "idiot" lights to freshly Line-X'ed Triumph Headlight bucket
3. Move Clip-On's under top tree (still unsure)
4. Do alittle work on my MAC 4 into 1 to make it look alittle better/tighter to the bike
5. Maybe an extended swingarm for that "dragbike" look (still unsure)

ProTeal, I wouldn't extend the swingarm. You'll greatly compromise the handling. It won't go around corners well at all. Now, if all you intend to do is have it on the drag strip, that's a different story. Or if you were going to put on a turbo or something...

The thing doesn't corner/handle well at the momment due to the 21'' front wheel , so I think I could live with the swingarm being 2'' longer.
As I said before, in this project FORM wins over FUNCTION...

Man those black wheels really make a difference.  Jeff's got a good point about the swingarm...between that and your big front wheel, you'll have a hell of a time changing directions.  I know you don't plan on roadracing that bike any time soon, but it still may be something to watch out for when cruising around.

You guys that can hammer out your own tanks are amazing...I'm still scrounging around trying to find a cheap alloy tank before I spend the time painting mine.  Saw this one that I could make work, but it's over $400 now and still haven't hit the reserve.  Worth every penny, but just can't bring myself to pull the trigger.

That tank is not going to sell for under 600 I would think, most alloy tanks sell in the 800 to 1000 range. The thing is, if your building a Cafe, the tank is one on the most important parts to get the look of the thing right. Check out what Carpy dose to stock tanks. www.cb750cafe.com

If you've got some scrap pieces left over from your tank, weld 'em up and throw me a bone here.  Every bike I've owned has been on it's side at least once, either on the road or at zero MPH in the garage.  I don't think I could strap on a $1000 alloy jewel and still enjoy riding.  Maybe with some matching alloy training wheels...
