cancelled bike tour
« on: July 28, 2015, 02:45:59 PM »
I subscribe to Motorcycle Classics magazine, and several months ago read their description of a tour offered by Moto Touring (http://www.mototouring.com). I booked a tour of the Isle of Man. A few days ago, one month before departure, Moto Touring cancelled the tour. Because I do not live in the U.K., I bought airline tickets. They are not refundable. Although the tour cancellation was entirely Moto Touring’s choice, they have washed their hands of any financial responsibility for my loss.

You might be thinking that I should have bought trip insurance. I did buy it. However, Travel Guard will not cover this.

I am posting this because everyone should be aware of the risk in doing business with Moto Touring. Frankly, Travel Guard has also lost me as a customer.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that happening to you.
Maybe we could get a Brimmer thread going on this shady company?

Crap-thats a bummer. I am sure you had high hopes and were looking forward to the trip. Did this company give any reason for the cancellation ? going out of business ?

Sorry to hear that.

Consider doing one of these since you already have airfare...

Eff that!  We have members in the UK.  There is also a UK sohc site.  Change the title to mention the UK and I am sure they can help you get your own tour going.  Like the Godzilla tour, but you get to be Godzilla!

After what the good people at Moto Touring just did, I lack enthusiasm for more of the same. And then there is the issue of attempting to change airline reservations (different dates, different country).

Because I'm stuck with the tickets, My wife and I will go to England, rent a car, and do a road trip. Not quite what I had in mind, but it will do.

There has to be another bike rental in the UK, though.  Heck, maybe find a cool CB you can borrow or rent from a member.  Don't just cage it if you want to ride.

Get over here and introduce yourself.

Explain what happened and see if someone will rent you a bike for a few days.

Hi Bob,

sorry to hear of the cancellation of your holiday. Just to be clear, are Moto Touring giving you a refund but your airline tickets are non refundable, so Moto Touring's cancellation is leaving you out of pocket ?

Moto Touring has refunded my deposit. My issue is that Moto Touring's actions left me with tickets for which I paid a fair amount of money and little time to plan an alternative.

I understand. Sorry to hear about that, but you seem positive to launch an alternative holiday plan, good on you.

Shame on Moto Touring to be so cavalier, especially when their website makes them out to be such enthusiasts. So now they have some real publicity.
