Is removing the oil pan the only way to confirm it is seated properly? I will be working on getting this correct tonight

Not sure, maybe you could look down like my picture shows but I think the tensioner will block your view.

Tore the bike back apart after work today, dropped the oil pan. I cannot figure out how to get this Cam chain tensioner in the slot. See the video. Am I completely doing something wrong here??

Lol. You playing peek a boo?  What thing in the slot are you talking about?

On the 550, it's easier if there's an inch or so gap between the cylinders and the case. Maybe give that a try.

Haha. Hard to record and try to work the tensioner around. Trying to find this slot.

I will have that a try tomorrow after work and report back.

Haha, that's a funny video for some reason. Yeah, cylinders should come up a bit. I think you'd want to put it in the slot first then the adjuster through it's hole in the cylinders.

Bam! Got that biotch in there! So here is the secret, or at least how I did it. Pull the cylinder head up an inch or two. Insert tensioner through the tensioner bolt hole. Squeeze the tensioner against itself and tighten that nut so that it won't move. Tap the head back into place with the end of the tensioner going towards the slot. Probably the biggest pain in the ass thing yet.  Thanks for the tip DaveBarbier!

I should have just started a full project thread. Helicoils, a few beers and putting her back together.
