Anyone got an old Clymer CB750 manual?
« on: October 24, 2006, 05:30:23 PM »
G'Day guys, well I sold my beautiful ARD magneto, (Sean, I'll be needing you to order me a Dyna 2000 soon............) and Jim French, the buyer, needs some installation instructions?

Now an Ebayer contacted me to say that the old Clymer manuals have "How to" set-up instructions in the "Performance" section of the manual? I've only got the genuine manual and a couple of Haynes manuals, so I was wondering if you guys could help?

I'm not sure if Jim is a SOHC4 member, but his email address is jmfmicroweld@earthlink.net if you can help him out? Thanks guys, Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I've got a clymer that covers 750s for 1969-74. There's no performance section... :( I've been looking to trade for a 550 manual - I've got a 450 manual too if anyone's interested.
That's like hypnotizing chickens...

Terry I've got a Clymer with performance section buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut all it says is, " ARD Magneto - This system is one of the first to be introduced, still a favourite. However the magneto uses conventional points, which need periodic readjustment. The cost of the ARD is very high. This is an excellent first generation performance ignition for the Honda Four - but better systems are now available"
This is followed by a warning about not using "mysterious" ignition systems
Thats from the 1983 Eighth Edition.

Now as for old ones us Aussies have found that liberal coverings of Vegemite keep ours young firm and proud! And thats just our women.

I read the other day the Yanks have banned vegemite as it has folate in it. So much for their superior intellect making them the "Masters of the Universe" Fancy depriving their population of the ELIXER OF YOUTH!!!!

This website may be useful - I haven't checked data but you may know  http://britishcyclesupply.com/help.htm

IIRC the ARD mags and Joe Hunt Mags are pretty much the same. You can contact Joe Hunt and they will tell you how to set it up.

http://www.huntmagnetos.com/

I think they ever offer rebuilding services.

Hey Terry
Jim French here and I just became a new member of this organization yesterday and I should have done this a long time ago
but just thanks again for putting the word out. If any one has an old manual that has that ARD info in it I would love to have it
Samcr750 left very good instructions on how to time this system so I think I am OK
thanks again

The instructions Sam left in the Open Forum are out of the old Clymers.

Looks a little to big to be calling him a Fat Boy   ;D

Nice score on the mags. I'll check with the guy next door. He has a 750 manual.

Welcome Bid-Jim.

Sam, do you need a Clymer's?   I just realized I have an extra Clymer's because my PO gave me one with the bike.  I dunno what exactly constitutes old, but both were published in 1980.  Anyway, I'll pop it in the mail (free) to whomever axes first.  If no one axes, I'll post it to the parts for sale.
