Joe in Uk
« on: August 17, 2015, 01:26:12 AM »
Hi ,

My name is Joe and I live in Warwickshire, UK.

I have a CB750 four 1975..which has been Cafe racered by previous owner. I have removed the dropped bars and fitted straight bars. I'm getting hold of an original headlight and ears as I can't stand the one that's on her !

Much prefer the original bike but I'm working with what I have got.

Yesterday I changed the oil filter ( used a torque wrench to retighten the filter bolt ! ) and over next day  I'll clean the oil tank and add fresh oil. I have the grade in the Haynes manual but wondering if modern oils have changed the recomemndation ?

I have a nice new aircleaner so that will go in too as well as a spark plug change.

Longer term I like the idea of adding a second brake disc up front. I did this on my BMW R90 and it made a great difference to the braking both in how progressive and how powerful.

Happy days. I love the look of the bike..

Look forward to chatting with you guys.

cheers

joe

Welcome Joe.  Nice bike.  What brand of handle bars are on it now.  I like them.

Thanks Tom. Ill look it up and let you know. They are 22mm and not oe. I wanted a low rise and had to be careful that the span of the centre section was sufficiently wide. They are very comfortable and respond nicely to counter pressure. Slow control with them is also very easy.
I plan to fit 4 into 4 system..original headlight and ears and chrome tail light bracket.
Also original seat and mudguards.
No big rush though as shes nice and tidy with a lovely engine.
I have Italian and German bikes but this 750 is a real keeper !

Welcome!

As far as oil, that's always a long discussion, you can't have motorcycle forum without oil threads, LOL!

From what I understand, these old bikes need oil with elevated zinc level - compared to modern oils.  Lot of people in USA use diesel engine oils and zinc additive.

I go with Mobil Delvac 15W40 as winter oil and Valvoline 20w50 motorcycle oil in summer and Rislone zinc additive.

Joe, thanks for the report on the bars.  They look great and sounds like they handle great.  Good luck with your new toy.
