I will NOT be doing my own welding on this bike!!! LMAO!
« on: July 21, 2015, 05:29:45 PM »
So, spent the best part of the day working on the generator on my RV. 1998 Diesel Pusher with the last of the 12v Cummins, Ally 6sp and Freightliner chassis.....but with an LP Generator, WTF>?
Anyway, one of the problems was a broken exhaust from last Fridays trip back from Savannah.

Took it to a friends to let him weld it up and he ....thought .... it was time for me to learn to weld for myself....yeah. The beads are his fixing my mess.

I love to make my bikes worthless due to high mileage!

Don't feel bad, all welders have to start somewhere. I thought I knew a thing or 2 about welding until I started working for my current employer, all our MIG's are set up to run 300+ amps and between 30 to 32 volts which means a lot of .045" wire, very hot very fast. The first time I pulled the trigger on one of those monsters just about scared the daylights out of me and I realized I had a lot of learning to do.

My welder became temperamental, could not figure it out - turns out the ground on the post burned itself loose.

After fixing that, my welding improved 80%.

I did a few welds on a little hobby deal was my first welding. It didn't look too good, but made a weld. Then I learned it works a lot better when you turn on  the gas bottle.

If it is not going to be on show, and it works . . .

Just be careful of any exhaust leakage. CO poisoning not good.

Welding is an art form. If you hadn't picked up a brush for a while, you have to knock out some cobwebs
