carbon build up

Hey guys. Ive got a 1979 cb650 Ive been restoring and have finally got down to the engine work. all i have left to do is the cylinder head. I'm stumped because I'm looking for a good way to remove all the carbon build up from the ports and chambers as well as the heads. Any tips or advise on getting rid of the nasty sh**. Also advice on getting the valves cleaned up. Thanks and as always input is greatly appreciated

I like KROil to dissolve the old carbon.  Sometimes I glass bead the head if it is off the bike.

Thanks for the input. So if i chose to bead blast is there any precautions i should take before doing so. I don't want to damage anything. Will bead blasting damage the valve seats? Can I bead blast the valves as well as long as i protect the stems? Should I tape up the valve sleeves before bead blasting?

I screw the valve cover on to minimize direct impacts, but glass still gets in there.  Leave all your valves in place the glass will clean where it is supposed to.  If your worried about the mating surfaces you can use an old head gasket, but if the pressure is low like 50 PSI it will just clean off the old gasket reside.  I was having my resurfaced anyway.

After you will have a fairly big cleaning job.  Blow everything out with compressed air several times.  Then use Kerosene to help further clean.  Blow out with compressed air again.

Glass makes everything look new, but is work and messy.  It is all messy.

The head is off the engine so i don't have to worry about it getting anywhere else. My focus is mainly the valve seats and the exhaust ports and chambers. Im curious can I just stick the vlaves in the guides and blast it all at once?
