Bonneville Speed Weeks Canceled Again
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:56:52 AM »
How much does this suck? This makes 4 in a row and, I believe, 5 out of the last 6 events that have been canceled due to weather. We were in the process of completing a new S-10 truck to compete as well as our 59 Metro. It looks as though the days of racing on the salt are numbered.

salt layer has seemingly gone from a few feet deep some decades ago to just a few inches..... with ground showing up in spots. sounds like a one way trend.
Regretfully as it was somewhere in my to do list.

So far you only need to worry about the first event. Bike week is still on (at this moment). Keep it on your list WHILE YOU CAN. Come on out and meet up.

Yeah, from what I've seen the last 2 years there is a crust and not much of a layer.

El Mirage is closed right now also due to flooding ( can a lake flood?). With the rain Ca. just got I wonder how much more B'ville will get. It's not unusual at all for the World Finals in Sept. to rain out, I think it has the last 3 years. There's concern that the racing days on the salt are numbered.
The only thing running at Bonneville right now is Bonneville Shark Week:

Actually...............the salt-flats have less water standing than last year and the BMST-event ran with the biggest loss of time to run due to WIND.  Yes, the salt is IFFY...........but after today, the forecast is for HOT AND SUNNY............which makes a good salt crust.  By limiting the traffic at this time, the salt will have a better chance of remaining FLAT ;)

I have my bikes on the benches making final preps............so if your inclined to fulfill your wish-list...........I plan to be running the CB750 C.B.R. on Sunday, August 30th ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just a few pools from the look of it vs the shifting ocean from last year. Bringing my boots this time  ;)  The wind should also help dry it out.

You never know what tomorrow brings, the Bonny boys may have to come to Australia after xmas for a run here at Lake Gairdner in Feb.
The track is on salt 3 metres thick on the south end. The lake is the 4th largest in OZ at 160km long by 48km wide.

Only problem is its in a outback national park so no luxury motels with brekky at 6am or tap water with porcelain dunny's, just red dust, heat , flies, the only cure is Beer and lots of good salt. ;)

If my mellow yellow ran well last March I was going to send it over to Bonny for some Forum guys to ride and have some fun with but it #$%* itself so couldnt do it this time, given the situation at Bonny maybe some of the forum guys could come over here for a ride on the old girl.  Need a fly net though mate  ;) ;D
