Just so you guys know, I'm Jack Trajic. Sorry if I sniped any of you. I've been looking for an R.C. angle drive for a couple of years. I now have enough parts to build a full R.C. 836 (mag, swingarm, lesters, triple discs, dual Webers, cam, bore kit...). It's the bike I've always wanted.

This is my little present to myself for when I return to the States from Iraq. I'll have a $100 bottle of bourbon waiting for me and a Vertex mag. Nice mellow bourbon and a fat blue spark.

The price seems a bit high to me, but then it's a Russ Collins Eng drive...if that's what ya want, then ya pays the going rate...   :P

No worries mate, I did think about poor old Jim howling at the moon after being sniped by whoever Jack Trajic was, but I'm sure he'll get over it, just make sure you get back in one piece and post lots of pics of your bike after you've sobered up!

p.s., What kinda Bourbon costs $100.00 a bottle? I thought Jack Daniels was like free with a carton of Marlboro in the US? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

 I was at a guys house tonight to help him with a project.....he has 2 of those ARD's sitting there.....along with a lot of other stuff. He was a AMA hill climbing champ using the CB engine until it couldn't compete. Went to a GS1100 then. Had custom camshafts ground to fire 1&4, 2&3 together for a "Big Bang" with the CB's back in the day. Great, down to earth guy....lottsa trophies. Lives 30 minutes from my house. Wierd how things work. ??? ;)

I cringed when I saw the final price of that mag. I thought it would go for about $450-$500. I told Racerx95 that the one he's been trying to sell/trade in the parts for sale section is worth about $500. I think this one is much nicer than his though. I saw an R.C. "power pack" angle drive go for $750 on eBay once. The power pack has a Mallory distributor form a VW instead of the VW Vertex mag. I thought that was a crazy price.

My "bike" is a pile of parts right now. A very sexy pile of parts. When I relocate and get a shop set up I think I'm just going to build three CB750s at the same time. For the time being the first bike I build when I get back to the States will be my "sport tourer"- a '78 GS750 with Krauser bags. I'll keep you guys posted on the CB750 progress once it's underway.

Swill!? That hurts, man. Scotch over Bourbon. That's crazy talk. A lot of Scotch is aged in Bourbon casks which is a good start. But, after that it all goes down hill. Even though my fellow Americans sometimes have me wondering I must say that I'm a patriot. I drive a Ford truck, I wear American made engineer boots and Levis 501s, and I drink the local product.

I think you're going to start seeing more ARD mags on eBay as people see what kind of prices they fetch. A few years ago (1997) when I first started using them you'd be lucky to get $350 for one. Believe it or not, the first one I bought was because it was cheaper than an electronic ingnition and a set of coils. Times have changed now and the people that have been hoarding them are willing to let them go for the sky high prices they currently go for...which is about what they sold for new.

I bought two new ARD F/M conversions from Neil Keen back in the 70's for my Triumphs...they went for $265 each, IIRC...There's a pic of one on my Triumph at -

It came with mag, belt, sprockets, bolts, sidecover, lid, wires & boots, drive...everything except the seal for the sidecover (a stock Triumph part)...

Personally, I don't think a used one is worth more than $300 USD...but that's just me...   ;D

(I know; I said all this before...but I didn't want to look through all these pages either)...   :D

That's interesting. I was born in 1974 so I'll defer to you experience. I swapped two ARD KZ electronic mags to a good friend of mine who was a Kawasaki mechanic in the 1970s. He told me that they sold for over $500 when they were new and gave me a set of Dymags for the ones I had.

I agree that the ARDs shouldn't really go for more than $300 but...well, eBay. People go nuts. Even yours truly as I really wanted the Vertex CB mag to complete my R.C. theme bike.

Maybe the 4-cylinder mag conversions...   ???  It was a different Fairbanks-Morse magneto...probably cost more...   :P

Plus, Neil Keen was a flat-tracker who sold mainly flat-track stuff; not to get rich, but to keep racing...he may have sold at or near cost to other flat-trackers...and me, too...   ;D

Needless to say that was very interesting about being snipped
I just new I had that system for $300 and change then It all
went away with about 5 seconds to go
 but I did down load that snipper program so watch out

I'd been aware of the Auctionsniper.com service for a while before I used it. I think it exploits the only flaw in eBay which is that it is a timed auction. I use the service on anything over $50 as it keeps people from bumping my bid up a dollar at a time which I hate. I bought a set of speakers once that had 37 bids and only 3 bidders. One guy kept bumping my bid. The service prevents those idiots from costing me money.

What's this about ARDs for a GS? I didn't know ARD made them for the GS series. I love GS's...and KZ's, and RD's and the occasional BMW here and  there...

I have one of those eBay "babysitter" programs, too...It's good for putting in a bid when I'm at work...I'll set my last bid for about 10 - 15 seconds before auction end...   ::)

But it won't help you *win* an auction...only your highest bid will do that...you can sit there all day, playing bid tag, and in the last five seconds, if you don't have the high bid, you'll still lose...   :P

Hey don't tell everyone about EBay sniping programmes guys, I've still got 3 ARD's in my garage, I sold the last three for $1600.00, which was a result of some determined bidders playing "Ebay Tiggy", ha ha!

How's that home grown ARD coming along PT? I've got a couple of spare tractor magneto's that I got for 10 bucks each, so I want to make one too! Cheers, Terry. ;D
