Is there any difference between a 73 drive and a 78?

The K7/K8 drives also have the "300" code part number so they should all be the same for all models. I never heard of one going bad though. Anyway, the answer is "no" in your case.

It didn't go bad.......the PO broke the drive tang off of it and I need to replace it.

It didn't go bad.......the PO broke the drive tang off of it and I need to replace it.
I guess that qualifies as "going bad" after all.  :)
