Newbie question
« on: July 24, 2015, 02:41:45 AM »
Hi everyone

I'm the new owner of a CB 750 of 1975, quite in a good shape ! It runs quite well even though i need to make some adjustments.

My question is, how can i decrease its weight ? It seems for me that this bike is so heavy..i managed to crash it quite a few times when i just needed to move it without running the engine for a few feets..

I'm also wondering if i can fit a reverse fork ? what is needed to fit it something like that ?

thank you a lot for your help

Welcome to the forum.

This question is probably better suited in the SOHC/4 bikes board. This board is for build projects.

The 750 is inherently heavy but you can strip some of its weight by eliminating unnecessary parts and replacing some others with lighter aftermarket parts. If you want to keep it more of a stock looking bike, this is not really an option. If you don't mind customization take a look at some of the build projects.

The 750 is a very top heavy bike by modern standards and weighs over 500 lbs. It is not a light bike to move by hand. Try not to drop it! ;)

The easiest way to shed some weight of the 750 is to buy a 550.

Kidding!  I'm kidding . . . they're top-heavy, be careful.

There are many heavy components on a 750 that can go on a diet (but many of these are not cheap mods):

Steel rims vs. re-lacing with aluminum rims
Stock seat vs. aftermarket/custom aluminum
Steel gas tank vs. custom aluminum
Stock 4-4 exhaust vs. aftermarket 4-1
Stock wiring harness vs. custom
Stock lights vs. aftermarket
Stock shocks vs. aftermarket Race Tech, Works, Fox
Elimination of centerstand, chain guard, rear sprocket guard, fenders, electric starter
