Carbs on a CB500f - removing brass without destroying it
« on: October 25, 2006, 09:34:05 AM »
I've got this old CB500f that's been sitting for about 2 years, it wasn't properly stored, but it seems like it's in really good condition.  I removed the carbs intending to break them down and soak them in a can of Berrymans a friend has loaned me.  I've got the carbs apart, but I am a bit stymied getting the 'needle jet' and the 'needle seat' without tearing up the soft brass.  Any suggestions?

There has been a recent thread about this but with 750 carbs. The jets for the needles (aka needle jets) are pressed in on the 750. NOT SURE about the 500. The caps were removed and a dowel made from hard wood was used to punch them out from above. The dowel was turned down/tapered apparently to fit inside the opening.
