Want my first bike but need help!
« on: July 25, 2015, 08:30:27 AM »
I am meeting the guy from the Craigslist ad below this morning, and would like to have anybody's opinion on if this is a good buy. Also, he supplied me with a vin number: CB750-23071xx, but I was unable to receive results anywhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what I am doing.

Thanks,

It's a great value for a project bike. But! It will require significant work and some money to make it fully safe, reliable, and dependable. If you don't have the skills, tools, or space, prepare to spend $2-$4k with a shop to get this work done.

If you are willing and able to learn, to get dirty, and become intimidated then learn through it, I'd buy the bike in a heartbeat. This forum and the volume of information can enable anyone with an IQ 2x their waist size to properly rebuild and out in the road any condition bike.

So, decide who you are, and prepare yourself for tons of frustrating moments to be replaced by utter and sheer pride, joy and enthusiasm!

That bike has a clean title and is a STEAL. Buy it today, not tomorrow, or someone else will buy it before you see it.  It's Saturday and people have time today.

I think that cost estimate might be a little steep just to get it in safe rideable condition.

Thanks for the awesome response calj! I was actually planning on attempting to do everything myself! I just want to make sure I am not getting ripped off.

FAR from it.  A titled, unseized 750 in California that is ALL there will fetch over $1.5K in California.  Buy it immediately or someone else will.  Maybe I'll get in my truck and buy it today.

Thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately, holding out got the bike purchased before I could get there.  :-\ I'll just have to keep my eyes open, and be more quick to draw in the future.
