Interesting tidbit, may (or may not) be of interest/relevance since HD cam chains have oval plates instead of peanuts.

I have to disagree with Jay on this one unless he's strictly referring to the stock components. It depends on the design of the sprockets, guides, and rollers. If all of the previously mentioned components have sufficient clearance for the chain's side plates, ie. they guide on the rollers and not the side plates, it's all good. Everybody and their dog has been using oval plate chains for racing applications forever because they are stronger.

Yes, I believe it was in ref to using HD chain with the OE tensioner set up (link in post). I'm looking into the same right now, trying to decide on the best set up for the Tsubaki 94L.

I am doing so many stuff for my project that I don't have time to post.

I finished final design of cam and primary chain tensioners.

I cut on laser some stainless steel sheets.

I am waiting for plastic to be cut on cnc.

Also I made some central wheel for cam tensioner(previous posts for explanation). It is made of 4721 steel and then nitrated to 55Rc.

And I made several torsional springs for primary tensioner. I wanted to test different diameters of wire. I ended with 3mm black wire for springs. So it is a HD spring 0.1mm more in diameter then stock

... And of cores you have to heat threat your springs if you want them to last...

I would think that the hardened steel tensioner wheel will pound the chain rollers to death, by focusing all the pressure in a line across the roller. As I stated on the other thread, if you want to use a steel roller, it should be a proper sprocket shape, which cups the rollers and distributes the load over a much greater area.

mirko, pop rivets? hope you mean steel rivets that are properly stalked.... personall would use countersunk bolts and rivnuts on the other side

Yossef , I would need to widen the holes for pop rivets to at least 7mm from 4mm to accommodate M4 rivnuts. There is no space on some parts of sliders for that. And it would complicate machining. ..

I over engineered number of pop rivets;) I think 4mm pop-rivets are strong enough. Aluminum or steel

It works.

Still testing... This was one enormous project and finally I will time to share some whotos etc... Chains are a lot quieter... I think I can do better with stronger spring for primary chain...

Very impressive. I look forward to hearing how you find them holding up after some hours on the engine and a real thrashing. This is first rate experimentation by going on here. I love it.....

It would be very informative if you mounted a sound recorder near the engine(perhaps below the carbs) to record chain noise. Doing the same on a control sample(factory chain guide bike) would offer an interesting comparison.
