Wrist Pin Cir Clips
« on: July 29, 2015, 07:47:23 PM »
How does one remove the wrist pin retaining clips? A special tool. I afraid I'm going to mangle the pistons using a screw driver, or something similar.

First off, make sure you totally cover the holes in top case so that the clips do not fall in. Second, they should not be reused, so don't worry about bending when removing. I just use a very small flathead screwdriver to pry out of the groove, then I push pin out that side, then remove other clip with piston off rod.

I'm going to bore it anyway, so I guess I shouldn't worry about buggering up the pin hole. Those clips are just so small for my 54 year old eyes to see! Gonna need to get a finer tip screw driver as well.

I used a hose pick.  If they've been in there a while (likely) those wire clips can be pretty hard to budge.  Put on goggles, they make excellent projectiles.
