Since the rear brake does so much of the braking effort on these bikes, is it less weight or just for esthetics and another thing to bleed?  It does look very trick/slick/etc.  And it is a nice bit of bike porn.

With a modern front brakes, the stock rear drum brake's shortcomings are definitely more apparent.  Initially, I was going to replace the rear drum hub with 750F hub, but it is massively heavy, especially with the heavy rear rotor.  So the most significant appeal to me is the lighter unsprung weight.  The bike porn is the icing.

I'll be curious how much lighter (if at all) this will be by the time you add the weight of the adapter, caliper, bracket, etc. typically, Devin's hubs are not as light as stock as he refuses to hollow them out for safety concerns. So you're replacing the "hub" with a larger, thicker piece plus the brake components.

May be a net loss of weight gain (if that makes sense?). But surely the braking performance will be much better: dual piston, modern rotor, hydraulic MC.

Rear brakes work ok w/ very light applications to settle/lower the bike a little for some curves,or stop n' go dead-headed traffic;that's about all I use it for, unless the road surface is sketchy.
I'd rather pretend I don't have a rear brake..

Of course it was sarcasm Retro.  It is only money.  They are going to drop a nice bit of coin for the rear brake setup and I agree it is a logical step in a resto mod...just a lot of coin for something that is essentially eye candy.  There are situations you need to be braking more with the rear but they are an extremely small percentage of the time.  Like anything on the bike, you really should practice for those events to know how to do them as well as keep fresh in your mind and reflexes how much you can apply.  It is too bad we can't practice to the limits to learn what really is too much as well as too little, just the results of going too far or too little can be expensive. You can't really substitute another bike for obvious reasons...
Not to mention tire wear factoring into the equation along with lots of other things.

While a rear brake doesn't produce a signficant percentage of braking power, it does produces more controlled braking. In certain riding circumstances, it is the better brake to use as well. And you should always also use the rear brake as part of normal braking habits.

But that is certainly not the impetus behind the new product. It is to equalize the update front-to-rear, provide a replacement option to a drum brake, and provide options for different rear set choices as well. All in all, anyone who is making "upgrade products" for these bikes is doing a great service to the entire industry (in my book). Plus, he was willing to do something at a risk to him to placate me. I'll have 2!

Dude....I question this very frequently...then again, just means you need to add more diverse motorcycles to your fleet! Crazy to think our Honda's are virtually rolling retirement funds, haha.
