Re: cb750 cam degreeing video: wanted

Good Afternoon.

I've read and re-read the Webcam instructions on degreeing the camshaft (after the TDC section) and am having trouble understand what adjustments to make if the numbers dont match up. Ie: rotate the cam sprocket (which direction?). Also explanations for cb750 owners with hotter cams...overlap, fine adjustments, etc...

Has anyone made a step by step video, with additional steps for cam sprocket adjustment? I know I'm not alone in benefitting greatly by somebody's video.

Thanks,
Chris

It's rocket science. NOT! Set your lobe center. Period. ZERO lash for this! Set your cam chain tensioner before starting too once you do TDC. The openings and closings are what they are. You can not affect them without changing your lobe center. My Webcam was notched 180 degrees off so watch for that. I finally realized why the valves were hitting the pistons when I compared it to the stock cam. Just go slow and cautiously for this reason. You can make small changes by turning the crank or the cam (don't try to turn the sprocket itself) with the nut on the end of it. Should you turn it a no-no way, get a good number then tighten the sprocket just be sure to rotate your crank a couple turns and re-check your numbers to account for any reverse turning slack from the cam chain tensioner.

Frustrating huh?! About drove me nuts but once I was done I realized it is really easy just no good instructions out there.

Anyone else verify, add to it or disagree?

I will agree that it's hard to grasp by just reading the instructions. You actually have to do it. I wish I had made a video. I started with adjustable sprocket lined up exactly in the middle, got my numbers, then adjusted from there. The most important thing to calculate is lobe centerlines of intake and exhaust. You want those as close as possible. The open/close numbers will not match card. Can almost guarantee it with webcam. So after initial numbers, retard cam, get numbers, if centerlines get closer keep going, if not, advance cam. I know it may not make sense now, but it will when you do it.

Here's some pictures and a little info I do have on my learning process, continued from page 5 to page 6
