Topic: Engine stalls out after 10 minutes of driving!!

Well, I finally got the bike started first kick, and carbs have been cleaned and synced. Off for the initial exciting ride since purchased. By the way she is a 1974 CB550. Any rate, Ran beautifully, but after about 10 minutes she started stalling, and lurching like the  fuel was shut off. After sitting on the side of the road for 5 minutes, she started back up no worries.

TIP: If you POR 15 seal your gas tank and leave your gas cap on while swishing it around, the sealant will cover and plug your breather hole for the tank. As I was sitting on the side of the road for 5 minutes the tank had time to re-pressurize slowly. Simply drill a small hole in the seal cap under the chrome lid and it should be fine.

Everything I googled on this issue pointed me towards electrical/new battery, rectifier. Pshh just a drill bit.

I really hopes this barely technical post helps someone out.

Sounds and ran great. What an experience riding such an old bike!! I say ran because she left me stranded on the side of the road today couple cylinders needed a break from firing. But thats all part of the game when bringing a bike back from the dead I spose!

When mine did that, it was vapor locking, my gas cap was not venting correctly,  so i realized it, i losing the cap and on the why i went.
The gas cap rubber had swollen to much.

Geeze sounds just like the problem I had! I ended up bringing it to a local mechanic, had them redo the carbs only to find out that it couldn't start anymore...... So his suggestion was to redo the gaskets & found out that 8 of my arm rockers are worn along with the camshaft.... SMH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARG!!!
