Polaris Slingshot opinion

   I rode(drove) one this morning and I think I like it, maybe.  This is a 3 wheeler with 2 wheels in front.  Has a car like seating, side by side with a 5 speed, with reverse.  Your butt is about 12 inches above the road.  It is called is a motorcycle, so it has no airbags and any other car safety stuff.  My guess is that may be safer that a old sports car, think 1960's.  Safety, with bikes does depend on the rider.   It does have ABS and TC, and you can turn the TC off.  It seems to corner very well and it will put down darkies. 
Note:  Doohan, Rainey, and Rossi, and put down real darkies.


I had a back operation earlier this year and the doctor has not cleared me to ride my bikes and I miss riding. (14 months and counting) So I am hoping that maybe this Slingshot could be used for longer rides.


Has anyone else have any time or experience with the Slingshot?  The looks of it does take some getting use to.

Poor excuse for a T-Rex, but of course much cheaper!  The better choice for the dollar would be a DiamondBack trike.

There have been two fatalities that I know of in recent years where the 50-something owner lost control of his Polaris "trike" in loose gravel mid-corner and was catapulted off.

These guys were both members of the "Ulysses" Club, (for old farts, you have to be a minimum of 50 years old to join) and I didn't know them personally, so I've no idea what their own personal skills were like, but I do know that some other Polaris trike owners have sold their trikes and gone back to riding conventional motorcycles. 

It might just be that they require a different riding style (like riding a bike with a sidecar, for instance) but I think I'll stick with 2 wheels. ;D

The only trike I have ridden was when I was 3 and some drunken nights racing  Bigwheels in my twenties.  Driving(riding) the Slingshot is more like a Miata.  I fit better in it better then the MG Midget that I drove in the 70's.  I have ridden a side car but only around the block.  At 24,000 dollars, I find more interesting that a Tour Glide or Goldwing at a similar price.  I do like riding my sport bikes for the corners and the speed.   SOHC Honda are also quite fun to ride.
I don't know,  different strokes?

Has any one spent any length of time in one? 

The looks of the thing seems to be hate or love it.   When I get back on a bike I'll know if I can still do long rides.  If my back can deal with 3 to 4  hour rides I think I'll stick with bikes.

BTW,  I was looking at a Shelby Cobra replica, and as sweet as it is,  I doubt it would crash any better then the Slingshot.

Thing is HUgE, and makes little sense to me.

KTM from Austria, in Austria if you have had to many DUI's you are only allowed to drive a 3 wheeler. Everyone knows who the town drunk is in Austria because they drive the 3-wheeler.

I guess the town drunk got a new ride. my friends brother had a bad wreck in their own driveway with the farm tractor. They drink a little much.
