New to me CB550
« on: August 06, 2015, 08:36:52 AM »
Hello everyone,

New to the forum, new to working on motorcycles. Just picked this up as a side project as I just got my 91 ranger and my 76 cub cadet project out of the way. Don't know a whole lot about it -- though I just was reading through a few of the threads and how much pods are dreaded--and I'm pretty sure this has pods w/ the k&n fitting, though I'm not positive. I did grab a box of parts that included the original air filter if I want to swap it back because of the jetting issues I'm reading about. Haven't had a whole lot of time to go through it yet; it starts & runs, drove it around up to about 35 in my driveway (its a long one), and I didn't pay a whole lot for it (sub $400) so I think it was a decent deal. Got a new battery on the way as the one in it is junk.

My goal is to just get it inspected & registered this year, throw a new battery & seat on it and do the brakes before I start tearing it apart over the winter. Going to start reading around to see what I should do first after the three things I just mentioned.

Less than 400 Bucks and it runs?  That's a winner.  Welcome and yes, you have pods. :)

Yeah, the engine seems pretty darn solid on it (I was told someone just rebuilt it, it does seem like that could be the case, but I always take that kind of stuff with a grain of salt)...and I figured that's what they meant by pods after I read around :)
