Hello everyone and thanks for the great resource you have made here. I recently became the owner of a nice 1975 CB550K with 16,000 miles on the clock. The original paint is in excellent condition, no noticeable fading, with just a few little scratches on the top rear of the tank that look like they might have come from the hardware on someone's jacket. The exhaust is an aftermarket 4-into-2 setup but it has a nice snarl. It's obviously been well taken care of and if it were any nicer I'd feel guilty about riding it. It runs like new. When I found it, it was wearing a 70s-vintage Windjammer fairing along with crash bars and highway pegs, all of which promptly came off. I'm leaving the rear rack on for the time being at least.
I've always liked bikes from this era. As a child of the '70s, this is my image of what a motorcycle is supposed to look like. As a pragmatist, it seems to me that these Hondas represent in many ways the perfection of the motorcycle in practical terms. I've always thought Honda hit the "sweet spot" with the 550. It's kind of the "mama bear" of the family - not too big, not too small, not too fast, not too slow.
At one time they seemed ubiquitous, but in recent years I've really taken notice of the few nice ones that seem to be left. I feel the "value" of this machine -- not in the market sense but by some more absolute measure -- far exceeds the $800 I paid for it.
Anyway, enough rambling and on to the pictures.
How I found it:
