Cb400f super sport project
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:25:45 PM »
I recently "inherited" a 77 parakeet yellow 400 four from a family friend. I've always been a vintage car guy and loved the look of these older bikes, problem is that I've never tried a bike restore. Any advice on where to start? Bikes in decent condition but I'm sure I need a ton of maintenance to get it safe and I need some advice on parts shops where I can get some factory type and aftermarket parts. I'm thinking I'd like to keep it looking vintage with a little more of a cafe look on it. I'll
Try to post a pic, hopefully it works.
Thanks guys.

The first thing you will want to do is get your bike running reliably and safely.

Start here:
http://manuals.sohc4.net/cb400/

Perform the recommended 3,000 Miles Maintenance Service to acquaint yourself with the bike, it's systems, and provide you the reference of what is in spec, and what needs replacement.

Then, you can move towards a custom style project. Keep all the stock parts as these can be sold or re-installed should you change your mind later.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
