1966 Puch The Puke thread!
« on: August 09, 2015, 12:57:43 PM »
Found this little toy locally, bought it from a guy that really knew nothing about it.  Said he rode it for a year, then wouldnt start and he let it sit.

It's a '66 Puch Sabre, fairly rare, not a lot of info on the web about them. Was available for purchase as an Allstate for about $200 new back then!
The motor is a 49cc two stroke.

I brought it home and had it running in 15 min!

Thought my daughter might have some interest and would be a good little bike to have her learn on.  First time she saw it, she said "it looks cool, very basic", so thats a good start.

And she is right, it's very basic, no igniton key, just kick and go!  It does have a headlight and horn, and they do work, although you need to rev the motor to get enough voltage to hear the horn!  Has a four speed transmission and front and rear brakes, all work ok.

I've ridden it around the block a couple times but it keeps fouling spark plugs.  It hit 35mph downhill, it felt like I was going much faster!

I had a Puch at one time, totally forgot until you posted this.  Forget what size but it was either a 125 or 150 street bike, which I decided to take dirt biking...I went over a jump unaware that there was a rather large ditch on the other side.  Forks hit and completely bent stopping the bike and sending me over the bars and into a hospital...Larry

I had a Puch at one time...

My first bike [moped] was a Puke, my Dad bought it for me for riding around the lake house. Ran great.

The bars make the bike look really good for a full cafe racer candidate

It's a racer as is!  It's so original I cant chop it up.  If my daughter doesn't have interest it is, I'll prolly just sell it at the Vintage bike show in Oct...after the "Fun Run", must have a bike under 100cc for the ride.

Fcuk that thing is ugly! My cuz has a couple of Puch "Twingles" (sold as Allstate's in the US, I think) and a couple of Puch mopeds, did Puch ever make a nice looking bike? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

your daughter will be the coolest kid on the block with that thing. just make sure she understands that those brakes barely work!

i've got a 50cc bike for around town, it's perfect for that and good fun.

It's pronounced pook. :P My buddy had a '66 Allstate twingle that he paid like $50 for. I don't think he spent more than a couple of bucks getting it running, and in all honesty it was more reliable than another buddy's '66 Suzuki 80.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Yep, they were always "pooks" on this side of the pond too Scott, but looking at that thing, "Puke" is probably more appropriate...... ;D

If not, I'll sell it at the vintage bike show in Oct and double my money!

Do it Steve, that poor little girl doesn't deserve the ridicule of Pook ownership............ ;D

I loved all the puchs I've ever owned. Great peds. I've always wanted a twingle, but I dont think i'd be satisfied riding it. I really dont want to own anything I wont ride much.
