Soda Blasting?
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:20:39 AM »
Can soda blasting be done in a small sand blast cabinet? is a special tip needed? I would like to try soda blasting my carb bodies without buying special equipment as I have a small blast cabinet. Any ideas?
Don't try to make sense out of what don't make sense....

I'm happy with my HF soda blaster, good for carbs & engines, not too costly.  I use the lawn as my cabinet and stand upwind.  Works great, but tedious to do an engine.   I worry the media won't flow right in sandblaster.   If you try it you can wash out the remains with water.  Let us know.

I soda blasted with my regular old siphon feed blaster, worked just fine. did it out in the drive way and washed it all away aftwards. Was an engine for some bike, don't recall which now, Guzzi I believe.

I used soda in my HF cabinet as well. It works fine with the siphon and tip that came with the cabinet. The only thing I noticed is that it will clog more if your air isn't dry.

Clean up to change media isn't a big deal. Just empty your hopper and use compressed air through the siphon to clear the rest of it out.

+1 on the siphon easiest way to go.  Works well for cleaning carbs.
