500 four refresh
« on: August 12, 2015, 09:32:23 AM »
I have a 72 500 four racebike, engine/carbs standard, thinking on some light tuning.
I have a set of keihin cr29's which I bought for a rickman cr750 project but ain't done anything
With them , are they ok with ported 500 head? Or should I buy  cr26's ?
Will put in new camshaft and Pistons - any suggestions, ain't got a big budget.
The front end which is on the bike is going to another project , any suggestions on which one
Works well at reasonable cost, the bike will probably be raced on irish roads so it will need to
Be upto 1972. (I think)
Thanks in advance your assistance in getting this bike back on track appreciated, btw I'm not daft
Enough to race on Irish Roads its a pal who will be the pilot.

I think you should dispose of the CR29,s . . . . . . so much in fact I am willing to purchase them from you
this should help with funds for your project ???

Second refusal on the '29's, for my 550/605 and I'll keep them in Ireland ;-)

Oops, edited as I see you are in Scotland.  (I am a McDonald though)

I think 29s would be a good size for a 500 racebike, CR26s are good on a road 460/4 and the 584cc Luke Chures 400Fs ran 31mm Keihins very successfully.

correct. the 29,s will work fine IF you have the rest of the motor prepped to accept the carbs ( head work , induction porting / matching etc )
we use 29,s then set them up for methanol on our 500 / 4,s

good luck with your build.
