Been tossing around the idea of making a full fairing but since i have limited experience with fiberglass i was wondering what options were already out there?

AirTech Streamlining has every kind of fairing you could possibly want, prices are reasonable.

Also very popular were the Vetter Fairings.
You can generally find used Vetters on E-Bay.

You have not indicated any particular style you might be looking at.
Would help in pointing you in a direction.

It looks like a bike that would be a PITA to change the front tire if it goes flat.

Im looking for a cafĂ© or more modern looking sportbike fairing. I've  looked at airtech and like the cr repro. I was more or less just checking if there was more out there that i haven't found.

It has those quick release tabs on it.

It has since been painted. Its a "dustbin" fairing.

Is that a dragster or a road racer?

I have not a clue. I would utilize it for a weekend dragster project.

Here is an airtech with dustbin

http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/hondaz/CB750_cafebagger.htm#price

I'd love to have this bike!  Streamline design is sweet.  With the right areo mods the bike will get better MPG and have higher top end.

Can anyone tell me the history of the dustbin fairing.  First time hearing that term.

I know.. The airtech one is a bit too wide for me. I believe they are outlawed in certain places for either road racing or regular road use. I really want to make one. This beemur is hand laid fiberglass. Very cool.

The dustbin fairings were popular in road racing circles back in the stone ages   ...like pre 1960s muscle car era.  The engines were not very powerful back then and they tried everything that they could to improve aerodynamics.  If done right, it DID help, but there was enough added flat plate area from the side profile, almost entirely on the front end, that crosswinds had a tendency to blow them off to the side badly, occasionally into the weeds.  In the end they were banned for safety reasons.  Think carrying a sheet of plywood by yourself in a cross wind.

I do like the looks of that custom Beemer fairing though.  Awfully short wheelbase for a dragster, but I cant think of any road racing organizations that allow dustbins anymore other than for side car classes.

I'm pretty sure that fairing on the Beemer is a repurposed Augusta fairing that Airtech sells.  Looks way better in the Beemer ;)

My friend Charlie Perethian won the Vetter Challenge fuel mileage challenge with a Harley Davidson XRTT fairing molded off of Cal Rayburns bike, same fairing I have for racing. It was installed on a Honda NX250 and he got 157mpg on it. His son Max road the bike because he was lighter than Charlie.

Hey Powderman,

Thanks for posting.  MPG seems pretty for a bike without a huge tail section.  Good to know.

On a side note I wonder if that dustbin fairing would cause a 750 to overheat.  Don't see how air can get in there?

The single biggest problem with dustbin fairings is side winds, thats why they were banned from racing, you'd be flying down a straight and a cross wind would send you into 4wd mode, plowing {ploughing} through the bush.... :o
