I am throwing in a total edit here;   Looking for pics of 73 CB750 Candy Bacchus Green or (after the link on Retro Rocket's post) 72 Briar Brown, the Briar brown would be best as the bike is a 72, and the Bacchus green is a 73 color.

So any pics of Briar Brown would be cool.

The pics posted with the green in the sunlight was super helpful, thats a great color that I just may do it even though it's not my year color.

Thanks. wow I kinda hijacked my own post.

I think that has a metallic brown base coat.  Not sure about the green candy coat, or if it is green.

That's the color, thanks, I wanted to verify it before I ran out and bought some paint.

It wont be the same formula but the aftermarket paint suppliers do a ok job of matching colors.

Thanks again.

After looking at that Yamia750.com site I want to get a look at the Briar Brown color as well, my bike is a 72 so Briar Brown was one of the available colors, I really like the green though, but it was a 73 color.

Thanks for the posts, the pics and the site were really helpful.

I think that unless you are planning on keeping it for a long time the color choice would impact your buyers. The green is likely to bring much higher prices,  unless you are selling to a collector, then they will be interested in correct colors.
Basically, I would paint it which I liked,  but I don't flip bikes.
The green is a gorgeous color,  I am not a fan of the brown. But, it is probably rarer.

For a 72 the orange and gold are always winners. Personally I think the Brier Brown was one of Honda's duller colors, not a rich brown like they used in 71, the Candy Garnet Brown.

k2, original condition, 18,000 miles, still wearing its factory briar brown metallic Honda paint laid on 43 years ago.  I personally like this color.  Its looks classy, but its not a screaming in your face psychedelic 1970s paint color, it is more subtle. Chrysler corporation offered on their muscle cars what they called "high impact colors" in the late 60s early 70s with names like plum crazy purple, panther pink, go mango orange, and lime green to appeal mainly to younger buyers. If the old sohc fours are like Chrysler muscle cars, any color that is not a high impact color is frowned upon by enthusiasts.  This is ironic, especially in Chrysler muscle cars, because in reality, the high impact colors only represent a small percentage of the total muscle cars built by Chrysler.  The dirty little secret is Chrysler produced far more "normal colored muscle cars" than "high impact colored muscle cars." Most people seek a vintage car or vintage bike that says, not literally, "Hey, look at me, I am from the late 60s (or early 70s)." I love my briar brown HONDA. It is a nice having a vintage bike that isn't dated in its color, brown is kinda of a decade neutral color.  It is really quite fun when people look at my bike and I tell them it is a 1972.  I get that "deer in the headlights look" from them because in most people's mind the era of the early 70s is cars and bikes painted, loud in your face, oranges, purples, greens, etc. It's priceless, when they look dumbfounded and say, "1972, really?"   ;D   Justin in Texas

For a 72 the orange and gold are always winners. Personally I think the Brier Brown was one of Honda's duller colors, not a rich brown like they used in 71, the Candy Garnet Brown.

Did you ever know: the 1971-72 Candy Garnet Brown was a repainted Green-over-[failed]-Red paint job that had failed as Red? There is also a version backward, originally touted as Candy Garnet Brown but later renamed Briar Brown, which was Red-over-[failed]-Green, showed up on mostly the K3. If you look closely at any of the brown ones, you will find the flaws that triggered the repaint, to "save" the tank.

My K2 was the Candy Garnet Brown: when my tank bag wore through the Green by 1979 the Red Candy underneath was plainly visible. I discovered the front leading sides of the tank had Red that was rubbed out (and apparently still didn't "make the grade") and there the Green was plainly dominant in the right light. But, the Vetter covered it, so I didn't care, then...When I got it repainted in 1979 I told the guy, "any color but Brown, Red, or Gold". He painted it gold...

I sure love that green, that's the color I had in mind all along, I wish it was a 72 color, I wish I could get a good sunlight pic of the brown, I know from a value standpoint I should paint a 72 bike a 72 color, I dunno, I guess I can figure it out after I get a good look at the brown.

Thanks for everybody's input so far.

Hondaman, thanks for the insight on why brown was painted on these bikes. So interesting a screw up resulted in what I own, a briar brown metallic 750. How on earth did u learn this story about brown 750s? Justin

Actually, Candy Bacchus Olive is a genuine factory 1972/K2 color and was found on the Japanese domestic market (JDM) CB750. The original part numbers for this color are in the JDM/CB750 parts book.

Thats the 1st picture I've seen of the brown in sunlight, thanks and beautiful bike.

So it was a Asian market color in 72, then the US or global market in 73, interesting, good info, thanks.

hotdog,

Just found this you tube video that says "History of the Honda 750".
Not much of a history except for showing the different 750 colors.
What you're likely to be most interested in is at around 3:15 of the video.

Enjoy

Havent been on here much lately, bike is in storage (inside and dry) at the moment (cross country move) but it still looks like this albeit a tad dirty. Oh, and the tank and sidecovers are off b/c they`re stored separate (mummified is more like it lol) to keep them safe/clean and dent/scratch free.
