primary shaft removal

had to take out my primary drive shaft to replace the chains (cam, drive) in my cb500K. the manual said i needed a special tool from honda to drive the shaft out after the circlip was removed. I discovered that a standard spark plug screwed into the opening at the end of the shaft provided enough of an extension that I could tap against the hex head of the plug and, after turning the shaft a 1/4 turn each time, gradually pull the shaft and bearing out of the lower case.

Good tip! I jjust went through the same thing myself but couldn't really manage to get it out with the sparkplug- wasn't able to get a decent swing at the head of the plug.  a 4"-6" m12 bolt with a 1.25 thread pitch did the trick, took some searching to find one though as most hardware stores don't carry bolts that size with the finer pitch.

Dont need to do either, leave the primary gear on and use a wide flat lever under it OR remove oil pump and tap on other end of shaft that is visible

Another way that I like a lot is really easy if you keep some parts around.  An axle bolt with the same threads with a couple of spacers on the bolt makes for a nice slide-hammer.

For further help, I have just removed mine this morning.

You don’t need to remove the circling as it’s on the side coming out.

Also, I used the bottom rear engine mount bolt which is the correct M12 x 1.25 with the nuts on one end and the hammer piece from my slide hammer fitted no problem.

The shaft came out with only a few light taps.
