Diado SafeD brake pad just won't fit
« on: August 18, 2015, 10:41:32 AM »
My front brake was squealing on the 550K. I've used EBC in the past with good results. Doing some searching here, the Diado SafeD pads were recommended by a few members.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-77-1977-CB550-CB550K-Front-Brake-Pads-Front-Pad-Set-DID-D-I-D-CB-550-/331628779916?vxp=mtr

When I tried to fit the piston side pad, it just wouldn't fit. The slot for the pin in the caliper was noticeably smaller. Even to the naked eye. I thought maybe I could file it out to make it work, but even after doing that, it just won't fit. I even sanded the perimeter of the pad, like you have to do on the painted EBC pads, and double checked to make sure the caliper body was clean. It just won't fit.

While I modified it and can no longer return it, I did let the ebay seller know about the problem. He's been very nice and quick with communications. Can't fault him there.
As a sanity check, I tried again today and it's a no go. The old pad drops right in. I feel like I could maybe force it in....like you have to really push the piston past a new rubber seal...but then it would move or retract properly.

He says he's sold over 400 of these with no complaints. Did I get lucky and get the oddball, out of spec one? Or has anyone else had trouble with these?

That's $23 down the drain, though I am using the non piston side pad. I'll eventually order some EBC pads.

I always had good experience with Daido - but I only buy CB750 pads.
