k&l carb rebuid kits
« on: October 27, 2006, 09:55:01 AM »
recently got my carb rebuid kits(k&l). the kits have the needle jets? in them. do these have to be replaced with the other new parts? how do you know if the current set in the carbs are bad? can they be replaced without taking the carb bank apart as i really dont want to do that. i maily bought the kits to replace the main jet o-rings since the main jets will literally fall out of the carb bodies. i think this is the main reason my bike 76 550k is running way rich. plus the 30 year carbs have never been rebuilt. any input is always appreciated, carl

Needle jets WILL wear, if the carbs have not been rebuilt in 30 years....it is time to replace them. You don't have to take the carb bank apart to replace them. They are replaceable through the top of the carbs.

General consensus is that if you replace the jet needles you must also replace the needle jets, which is quite logical considering that these two parts work together and therefore wear together. See this thread for info:
