Baxley LA wheel chock, anyone used one of these?
« on: August 19, 2015, 04:31:55 AM »
Saw this on my local CL, I've been thinking about a chock for my trailer.

http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/mpo/5178401351.html

Has anyone had any experience with this brand, good, bad or otherwise?

Thanks.

Not that brand, but something similar. An issue with that type is it's mostly designed for modern, wide tires. If you're running stock 3.25" fronts and 4.00" rears, the bike will want to can't to one side. It's fine, just be aware it won't hold it as solid and stable as a modern bike would be.

For use in a trailer, I prefer the bolt down type so the chick itself won't slide.

You can buy a "bolt-down" kit for this chock for about $30.00. If I buy the chock, that's what I would do.

I use a couple of $25.00 (when I bought) Harbor Freight units in my open trailer bolted down, works good enough and can be removed quickly for other hauling chores. These work well on their cheap lifts also.

Cycle Gear has a similar chock that cost $80 new (on sale all the time for $79.99) and it has bolt holes already configured.  http://www.cyclegear.com/TRACKSIDE-Roll-On-Wheel-Chock

I use on in my truck bed with tie downs all the time to transport old and new bikes.  The tie downs are a MUST especially with narrower front tires.

+1

Cheap, easy, effective.

Of course, it flies in the face of "buy American", but there is such a thing as "overkill"...
