Direction and focus needed (78’ 550 Café build)
« on: August 19, 2015, 05:58:37 PM »
Bought my 78’ CB550k over 2 yrs ago (running, but not well ) with plans to make my own Café out of her…

I have seen a bunch of threads on this site over the last 2yrs that have inspired me to go in certain directions for my build….calj737 & FunJimmy’s bikes comes to mind..

Guess I am at a point where I need some insight into what steps I need to take ….. I currently have my Top-End torn off the Engine (Engine in Frame still)

Planning to rebuild the Top end (Had ok compression when bought / at the lower end)
Planning Stage 2 Port Job
Planning to run CR 26’s

I have purchased CB650 Cam, Full-Pamco ignition, MotoGP 4 into 1 exhaust and a bunch of GSXR swap parts ect….

Just not sure or have any clue about Pistons ?? Do I need to replace ?? With what I am planning and have already bought what direction should I go ??  …. I emailed Dynoman and he is suggestion his Stage 2 Hot Street kit BUT doesn’t recommend the CR 26’s ?? Plus the kit has a few items I don’t want…

Ive read on here the CR carbs are overplayed. If you can tune your stock carb bodies it should work as well as the CR minus the hefty price tag.
