Looking to buy a CB
« on: August 27, 2015, 07:23:40 PM »
Hi guys, I´ll be driving next week from Milwaukee to Texas with an empty trailer and would like to find a good running CB550 or CB500 or even a CB750. Looking to spend 1-1.5K . Any one has something they are looking to sell? This will be my first CB.

Cheers

What happened to the deal in Mexico? How did you get to Milwaukee?

Yes prices are probably cheaper up north in the rust belt.

Probably? Only two CB550's listed for sale in Austin right now, look how far your Pesos will go....

I was offered this bike, remember I know nothing about CBs, I know there is something wrong but should I just run away or there is no big deal?

I think it is cheaper to find a fresh restored CB instead of buying a restore project that need complete restore.
Initial cost is higher but total will be less.
Another thing if you like to restore, a nice hobby.

You may know more than you think.  You obviously spotted something wrong with that one.
IMO, the best old bikes are the ones that have not been effed up.

PS.  When will you be in Milwaukee and what car you buy??

Yes, your secret is safe with me.  That would be a sight, an XJ6 with a CB in tow.

I agree. A bike that is close to stock and hasn't been hacked up is usually a better bike than ones that have strayed too close to a Sawzall and Mig Welder.

Look around the Four Corners area and if you're going through Phoenix, in this order: Flagstaff, Prescott, Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma.

I will, it is kind of far, but I am willing to travel to find the right bike, I just wish it could be in the Dallas-Austin area  :)

Ok, I´ve been looking around but I think the first question I should have asked is what is the price of a good running, unbutchered CB550? Am I aiming too low trying to find something decent in the 1-1.5K range?
