That Cycle-X stuff looks like tanks from Singh Customs.

The most accurate CR replicas in my opinion are made by Asa Moises (name may be misspelled) out of Ireland and sold through Mead Speed. Oil tank also.

I don't know the origin of the Cycle X products.

The Mead Speed products are spectacular, and look very accurate.  I was on the bloody waitlist for 1.5 years and gave up.

I was very close to getting a CMR CR replica, but then decided to design my own based on a Bimota with the help of Denis.

I'm assuming it was indented for whatever reason, but the knee indent shape obviously strays from the CR750 tank design.  It still looks nice, and the outer shape and vent, fuel cap, etc gives it the CR 970 tank style.  I wonder why they went for the knee dents.  It's actually harder to make the that way.

Perhaps they didn't want it to look TOO much like a CR tank.  I get that.

Cafe racer fan,

Yup, that exactly what I expected from Denis.  Single sheet bottom, bent with a sheet metal brake.  It makes a solid base that way to form and weld the sides and top to with minimal/no jigging forms required if done right.  If you compare that underside with the CR 970 tank, you'll notice what extreme measures they went to construction wise so they can get that extra maybe 1/2 gallon into it.  A very convincing CR replica tank (extrnally) could be built using a CMR style bottom pan along with accurate dimension top and side panels.  You can easily put in any baffle design one wished before the sides and top were welded on.

For an alloy CR style tank to go racing with, that makes sense.

George

I have a feeling the "seller" is entertaining himself and has nothing to sell.  I have called several times. The phone pics up, but no one speaks.  I can hear someone on the line, minor sounds, but no one speaks.  No answer to my e-mail either.

Does anyone live near Torrence California?  If I do get in touch with someone on the other end, I'd like to have someone from here or someone I can trust take my cash and pick it up in person.  Too much crap going on to blindly send that much cash to the other side of the country with no assurances. >:(

George, are you asking someone to show up with $1500 cash at a sketchy seller's address, who doesn't respond to emails or phone calls? ???

Of course not.  I would need to speak with the seller first and get clear on a few things to find out what's going on over there in Cali.  Perhaps it's everybody get stoned night in Torrence... who knows.  Some of the best rare stuff I have bought started out with some strange initial communications.

CB750 cafe racer fan,

Fantastic.  Now if the seller is actually a live person selling what is claimed, I just might take you up on the offer.  I'll need to see a new photo of that tank next to a new newspaper, kidnapping style! 8)  Basically a proof of life, and POSESSION!  Perhaps doing the exchange outside the local police station...LOL.

I'm full of good ideas  ;D

George
Like I said in my PM, you go for it if you can make contact. I already have a few of them. Just thought that was a good price if it was the real deal.
I didn't post my failure to contact hoping it was just me, not wanting to discourage anyone, and maybe somebody else would be successful.
Pretty sure it is a scam at this point but you never know.

I hope it's not a scam. Frankly, I don't get how the seller can scam anyone if s/he doesn't answer a call and take some lucre. Hopefully it's just bad communication. If it works out, I'll be happy to help out George.

You guys sound like Torrance is the ghetto. It's not. I've purchased motorcycles with cash in much less affluent neighborhoods.

It's not Torrance.

It's the ever abundant Craig's List Scammers. Frequent CL thefts, even murders in the news. Show up with cash - they rob you. They know no area boundaries.

Fraudulent motorcycle listings are routine. When you got one acting weird, beware!
