Is this worth $800
« on: August 31, 2015, 06:48:17 PM »
Hey everyone,

still looking for a bike to rebuild and found one I would like some input on. The seller is asking $800, the odometer reads 16k, and the seller said it starts and it shifts smoothly, but needs a carb clean and new battery before ridable (obviously a seat as well). I have attached some pics I took of it and would like to know what yall think. Is it worth the asking price? if not, what should I offer?

Thanks in advance!!

Around here I wouldn't pay more than 400 in that condition, and that's pushing it.

It is likely to need a new tank given the exterior condition. It has lots of rust and aluminum oxidation.  It will require a complete overhaul and most of the fasteners replaced or replated at the minimum.  It would be a expensive rebuild just for cosmetic and no telling how good or bad the motor is. It is likely to need more than a cheap refresh with fluids, plugs, and few other things.

I would want to spend much on it.

NO. Maybe $600 if you see it running and it sounds OK. At this point it is a POS parts bike with maybe only a few parts that would be worthy.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

the owner is asking $1500. I am not even sure what exactly it is suppose to sound like.

The original bike is not worth too much.

As for the second bike (super sport), that was NOT a cold start.  The bike seems to run okay, but the wiring is a MESS.  Does the bike have a clean title and current registration?  If so, in California, you might consider buying it.

Its got later model twin spot brakes as well, get rid of the emgo pods and put a muffler on it and it has potential, I doubt those carbs were set up probably, it runs pretty rough...

The seller is asking $800, the odometer reads 16k

$350. Maybe $400 if it has a title and he can convince his cute girlfriend to wash it in a bikini...

the seller said it starts and it shifts smoothly,

I'll give you $50 if that bike "starts smoothly" in that condition....

Agreed, I think it sounds sick, and not in a good way.
