So, I bought several bikes from a guy out of state. He was basically emptying his shed/shop (divorce). They were shipped to me on a flatbed. Having only seen them in pictures, I inspected them and found one (a rolling hard tail bobber frame) had the vin number scraped off/destroyed, so that it is unreadable. I wrote the guy and he said it was like that when he got it 20 years ago, as salvage. I wanted to return it but he refunded a decent amount and told me to keep it. Now my dilemma. I went to the police station and asked what I should do with a bike without a VIN number. I kid you not. The first thing the cop asked was, "what's the VIN number?". Ultimately, they were no help. Any suggestions? Is this scrap now?
